Free Environmental Resources Roadshow Returns to Safford

Arizona Department of Environmental Quality officials announced today that they and partners ADOT Adopt a Highway Volunteer Programs and Keep Arizona Beautiful (KAZB) will conduct an “Environmental Resources Roadshow” on Wednesday, April 29 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Graham County General Services Building Large Assembly Room, 921 Thatcher Blvd. in Safford. ADEQ encourages all community members, business people, public officials, and school representatives in Safford and the surrounding area to attend this free event.

ADEQ staff will discuss potential recycling funding opportunities, future electronic waste recycling events, food recovery program, and brownfields grants. Adopt a Highway officials will talk about the process for volunteers to adopt sections of Arizona highways for litter cleanup. KAZB officials will discuss their statewide litter prevention and beautification programs. Representatives of each agency will give brief presentations, engage attendees in an open dialogue and answer questions during the two-hour event.

“I’m excited to return to Safford for our second Roadshow where ADEQ will give attendees information and tools to take progressive actions to benefit their community’s environment,” said ADEQ Recycling Coordinator J.B. Shaw. “ADEQ applauds local volunteers’ passion for the environment – in 2014 alone, 337 Graham County Make a Difference Day participants collected an impressive 155,000 pounds of refuse and recyclables.”

“These kinds of events are great for state agencies, municipalities and nonprofits to get the word out about how they can assist Arizona residents and gain a deeper understanding of their environmental concerns and priorities,” said ADEQ Director Henry Darwin.
